Copying: How much does it cost to copy a page in the library?
Due Dates: How long before my book is due?
- Books are checked out for a 2-week
period. If the due date falls on a non-school day, the due date is the
next day that school is in session.
EBSCO: How do I get the user I.D. and password for home login to EBSCO?
- The user I.D. and password to login to EBSCO from home are provided 1) on a handout in the library (by the door to the computer lab) and 2) when you login to your Aeries
account, on the "resources" tab, then "online resource center".
Holds: Can I place a hold on a book?
- Yes. You can either tell the library
clerk which book you would like to put a hold on OR you can place
the
hold yourself online. Just go to the library page, type in the name of the book that you would like to put a
hold on, and if it is currently checked-out to someone else you may
click on "place hold". You must then
enter your long I.D. # (from your PHS I.D. card) and last name to
log in
to
your account - then you can complete the hold.
Hours: What are the
library's hours?
- 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (rarely, when
librarian is sick, or is at another library, then the library is open
8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.)
How many books may I
check out at once?
Late Fees: Shouldn't I be
able to
check books out for free?
- All books are free-of-charge for checkout
however, if a book is not turned in by the due date, a 10¢ per school
day late fee is charged. Late fees can be avoided as long as the patron
1) turns their book in on-time or 2) renews their book before it is
overdue.
Late Fees: Why does the
library
charge late fees?
- The library began to charge late fees due
to the large number of students keeping their books overdue for weeks,
months,
and sometimes even years. During these overdue periods, the
book is out of circulation for anyone else who would like to read
it,
therefore late fees were instituted to encourage the students to
responsibly turn their books in on-time.
Overdue Books: What if my book is overdue?
-
For every school day that your book is
overdue, there is a $0.10 late fee. However this cannot exceed
$3.00
total, and NO fee will be due if you either turn your book in
on-time or
renew it. You may not check out any more books until you have
turned
all late books in and paid all fines.
Printing: How much does
it cost to print a page in the library?
Printing and Copying: Why
does the library charge students for printing and copying?
- The student printer and copier are extra
services provided by the library, therefore they are not funded by
school funds. ALL student fees for printing and copying go directly
back into supplies and maintenance for the student printer and copier in
the library. Both prints and copies are $0.05 per page.
Reference Room: What is
the purpose of the Reference Room?
- The Reference Room is full of high-quality
books with facts and figures that are excellent for doing research. It
is open to students at all times that the library is open, however
these books may only be used in the library and are not available for
checkout.
Renew: Can I renew my
book online?
- Yes. Just go to the library page, click on the "my library info" tab at the top of the page,
and
enter your long I.D. # (from your PHS I.D. card) and last name to
log in
to
your account. Check the box that says "renew" next to the book you
would like to renew, and, voila!
Renew: Why won't the computer let me renew my book online?
- If your book is already overdue, it will
not allow renewals. At this point, you must bring your book into
the
library for renewal.
Status: Can I see online what books I already have checked-out and
when they
are due?
- Absolutely. Just
go to the library page, click on the "my library info" tab at the top of the page,
and
enter your long I.D. # (from your PHS I.D. card) and last name to
log in
to
your account. At this point you can see the status of all books,
due dates, holds and fines.
Web Filter: Why does the
school block websites, and who is responsible for deciding what sites
get blocked?
- Congress enacted a federal law, Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), that requires schools and libraries
to implement Internet safety policies which address: "(a) access by minors to inappropriate matter on the
Internet and (b) the safety and security of minors when using
electronic mail, chat rooms, and other forms of direct
electronic communications" as well as limit "offensive content" over the Internet. PHS contracts with Butte County Office of Education (BCOE)
to run our Internet filter.
Why does the library
allow talking, socializing, and games before school and during lunch,
but not during the rest of the school day?
- Our campus was built for approximately half the number of students that currently occupy it, therefore we
are short on space for students to congregate right before school as
well as at lunch time. The library allows for greater activity during
these times to alleviate the crowded conditions on our campus. While
most students are in their classes, the library is for quiet schoolwork
only, and teacher's passes are required for use during class time.
