WHO is Independent Study for?
The Independent Study (IS) Program is for Paradise Unified School District students at Paradise High School.
WHAT is Independent Study?
Independent study offers a way to individualize the educational plan for
students whose needs may be best met through study outside the regular
classroom setting.
IS has the same academic policies and procedure guidelines as all classes at PHS. As an alternative to traditional instruction, each student's program is designed through a written Master Agreement (MA). The student, parent and teachers sign the Master Agreement. The plan provides the opportunity for a collaborative learning arrangement on a one-to-one basis, as well as group learning experiences. Each MA and plan is tailored to the individual needs of each student. Instructional materials may vary depending on student need. Students will be expected to demonstrate knowledge and subject area content leading to their defined learning goals. Students are encouraged to improve their basic competencies and to broaden their experiences. Students pursue educational opportunities outside the classroom, yet within the framework of a learning contract.
